We are two friends, Laurie Schuler-Flynn and Amy DelBondio, who share an admiration for the age-old craft of producing olive oil and a passion for the art of food. Not satisfied with producing just another California olive oil, we founded Hillstone Olive Oil to satisfy an unceasing desire to produce the best quality, best tasting, locally grown California olive oil you can buy.
What is a Nugget? We ask ourselves that question all the time. It’s a family-owned business, for one, and it has been since 1926, when it was started in Woodland, California, by the Stille family. The Stilles are still running the place today, now with nine Nugget Market locations in the greater Sacramento area (and three in the Bay Area). Every associate at Nugget knows that company President Eric Stille and his father, Chairman of the Board Gene Stille, are still committed to the same principles that founders Mack and William had when they started the business: high-quality products and low prices.
Nestled at the base of the Vaca Mountains in Northern California, Winters is a small farming town that hearkens back to a simpler time. Despite its small size, Winters is home to unique shops, restaurants, galleries, and a one-of-a-kind coffee house while at the same time offering its residents a host of amenities, recreation activities, and world-class cultural offerings within short driving distances. Its proximity to these attractions has allowed the town to retain its unique character and to avoid the traffic congestion and suburban clutter of many of its faster-growing Northern California counterparts.
Winters Cheese Co. is steeped in rich agricultural heritage. Cheesemaker Daniel Turkovich grew up helping his father every summer on the family farm. He left for college at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo to study winemaking. However, through hands-on experience working at the Cal Poly Creamery, Daniel discovered his passion was making artisan cheese. Upon graduation, Daniel eagerly returned to his hometown of Winters, CA to establish a cheese company and continue a family tradition of making fine agricultural products.
